The exhibition is conceived as a tribute to the history of this place, reflected in the decision to construct a “phantom architecture”—inspired by a library and designed by Belgian architect Olivier Goethals.
This “reading hypothesis” stems from the desire to imagine a rewriting that begins precisely with the irretrievable loss of the written texts and the library’s collection, filling a void that the invited artists’ works reinterpret in imaginative ways.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a comprehensive public program of talks and conferences, developed in collaboration with the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History, the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, and La Società delle Api.
“Hypothèse de lecture” is organized by Trinità dei Monti, under the patronage of the City of Rome, and is part of the program celebrating the anniversary of the sister city relationship between Rome and Paris, “70 ans d’amitié — 70 anni di gemellaggio.”
